Ferries in Amsterdam instead cross the local waterway (known as the \u201cIJ River\u201d), connecting the city center with the north (or Noord) neighborhood. These are free ferries that run 24 hours a day (departing every few minutes). Most leave from Central Station, where you will see a digital countdown clock at each platform counting down the seconds until the next departure.
